In four of the seven European countries we polled, a majority of the respondents tell us that EA patients have endured two or more corrective surgeries.

It should be noted an overwhelming number of respondents (90%) say they are satisfied with the initial surgery.
But the respondents told us anecdotally that the overall experience was traumatic, confusing and frustrating. For example, respondents told us that they were never informed of the full slate of surgical options. A small number of respondents even expressed a kind of “had I known…” regret after the procedure was performed before they had time to conduct the proper research on their own.
Dilations: An overwhelming majority of respondents report that despite their satisfaction with the initial surgery, the EA patients did have to endure follow-up dilations, and in some cases many, many follow-up dilations. Germany, as you can see below, tops the league table for number of dilations per EA patient.
